Resort work, and working as a holiday rep in particular is one of the best experiences of my life. Don’t let me fool you, it is hard work, but the people you meet and the experiences your have make it all worth while.
Being a rep is a very challenging role. You are one person in a huge team who deals with every aspect of someone’s holiday, from arriving at the airport, until the day they leave and you wave them off to their plane. Resort work is often very demanding especially in the hot summer heat if you are working somewhere warm, but it is one of the most exciting jobs to do. Everyday is different as you could be meeting a group who are just arriving, taking a group to the airport to fly back home, guiding a bar crawl or even guiding a camel excursion through the desert no matter what you are doing you are sure to have fun.
The lifestyle as a rep in resort is very friendly. Everyone is away from their family so everyone becomes like your new family. You will work with people from all over the world and this gives you a great chance to learn new skills and make friends for life. Working in another country you have the chance to learn the language too which is a very valuable for later in your life and can certainly help you get the career you may want in the years that follow. Life abroad is very different to home; you are not only in a new country but you will experience new cultures, which can be very scary at first but becomes part of everyday life as a rep. Resort work is not always highly paid but with great commissions to earn, free accommodation and many other perks of the job you still will have enough to live off and have the best summer of you life!
